Sometimes I think about creation, that nothingness that turned into something-ness and everything-ness in days. How did a small bug come into existence - with all working parts, the instinct to hunt for food and live, mate, and contain a million really cool things about it, making it totally unique - how did it just happen alongside a trillion other creatures, all with their own amazing features? How can all this happen in an instant? What kind of chaos was in play at that time? Was there lightening, energy, light and dark - mass and gas filling the atmosphere, all creating creation?
How did whales get their voices and worms get their ability to cleanse our soil? What about the ecosystem and how it all interlocks into existence perfectly? Well, we have a perfect God and a God that is everything, so everything right down to the cells of every living thing is created perfect, and for a purpose. Wow. God created the earth and the sky and the sea in four days then the next day, He created living creatures. I’m inclined to believe that these living creatures that walk, run, slither, fly, jump, swim, crawl, chirp, howl, roar, squeak, yell, squeal, buzz all came into being with somewhat of a bang! Surely as the light exploded and formed these amazing creatures - large and small, there was a bang of some sort! It’s actually way too big to try and fit into my small brain so I decided to paint it. I started painting my canvas with clouds and explosions, then made the birds appear in the sky. The colours dripping off the top and colours forming represents Gods colour pellet - his creativity in motion. Why then, not add another animal on the opposite scale of a bird - a whale? These majestic mammals represent the sea and it’s inhabitants - the sea and sky were separated on the first day, making room for living things- and they also represent opposite ends of a scale. And why were these creatures created? We know some of then are for our food and clothing, but there are so many more that we dont ‘need’ as such . . . Why do they exist on this earth? I asked God this question and I believe I got the answer and it is for the same reason that we are here too. And that is to worship Him. Every living creature worships the Lord; some sound so beautiful like a song you could never replicate; some look beautiful beyond imagination and others fill in that perfect line in the eco system that connects all living creatures to give them the ability to worship the Lord. There is another facet to this too; every time I see an insect or animal that has such intricacies, it fills me with so much wonder, honour and respect for our living God - it allows me take time to appreciate the details that scientists are still discovering! What kind of God could be so amazing and so thoughtful and so genius to create these creatures? Our Lord is. He is the great I AM. And how wonderful that we are given the opportunity to have a relationship with Him! After all, we are made in His image too, and every living thing that exists on this earth carries a perfection that reflects God’s glory. That’s when I picked up my bible and the painting came together . . . Genesis 1:20 - 22 And God said ‘’Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly across the expanse of the sky” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to it’s kind. And God saw that this was good, God blessed them and said “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase in the earth. So my painting is the fifth day - the day the sea creatures and sky dwellers came to be - before everything on the land was created . . . A small piece of perfection orchestrated by Abba Father. Worthy are you, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honour and power, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created Revelation 4:11
